Back in high school, I played in a few bands. The school’s jazz band, an alternative/punk band but one of my all time favorites was a one on one off show me and 2 of my buddies did. It was just an acoustic thing–we had time to do 2 songs. We called ourselves the CL Smoothies and ended up doing PJ’s ‘Black’ into Neil Young’s ‘Rocking In The Free World.’ We were all drunk and stoned and had a blast. But those weren’t the original 2 songs we were going to do. We were originally going to do Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ and (today’s song) Weezer’s ‘Pink Triangle.’ So why didn’t we do them? Because the year before at a Battle of The Bands, we had a heavy metal band start a riot like mosh pit. We also had one kid come on stage, put a ‘Keep Of The Grass’ sign down and proceeded to sing Cypress Hill’s ‘Hits From The Bong.’ Both were shut down fairly quickly and we feared the same would happen to us. We accepted our fate, but hearing ‘I’m Dumb, She’s A Lesbian’ in 3 part harmonies would have been pretty great.
‘Pink Triangle’ = If everyone’s a little queer….Can’t she be a little straight?
